Demonstrating God’s Love
As a part of fulfilling our mission of impacting the lives of people for the glory of Jesus Christ, we recently held a prayer walk in the neighboring Northgate community that is located in between the two IHS properties. This was a way to bless the youth and families and bring a greater awareness of the prayer needs in our community.
On the walk, we:
Theme Scripture: Matthew 5:13-16 – Salt and Light
When we live for Christ, others will see His light glowing through us. The goal was that these families see the Light of Jesus as we walked through the neighborhood.
We praise God that out of 50 homes in the neighborhood, we were able to minister to 35 households. We are grateful that 34 of those households requested prayer. We know that when God’s Word is planted in a person’s heart, God can use that seed to create new life—eternal life. Please pray with us as we continue our outreach in the community by sharing the love and compassion of Jesus Christ.
In His Steps Ministries recently held its 1st Fall half-day camp on Saturday, October 2, 2021. Activities included fishing, games, crafts, and horseback riding. This was a first-time experience for many of the kids for horseback riding and fishing.
The camp experience encouraged spiritual growth through a Bible-centered environment. The Gospel was shared using a pumpkin demonstration with Matthew 5:16 which states, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” This demonstration revealed how when we receive Christ in our hearts the light shines. Students had the opportunity to accept Christ and were given follow-up with response cards about accepting Christ and/or receiving an opportunity to learn more about Him.
Our S.P.A.S.E. Afterschool program provides a range of high-quality enrichment activities designed to support students’ learning and development. The activities reinforce and complement students’ regular academic growth and development during non-school hours. Jasmine Thompson, a biology education major from Alcorn State University, is our S.P.A.S.E. coordinator.
The S.P.A.S.E. after-school program provides a combination of academic, enrichment, and recreational activities. Students are not only taught theories and concepts but are provided hands-on learning experiences. Students are given the opportunity to apply these concepts within relevant contexts. Also, students are provided homework support, tutoring in core academic subjects, individualized attention, technology integrations into activities, and various collaboration opportunities.
Research states that the most effective academic enrichment programs develop activities to meet the particular needs of students in their local communities. The activities in our afterschool program are designed to meet the individual needs of the students. We are grateful for the opportunity to continue to fulfill our mission of impacting lives by offering innovative ministries. The fall session of our S.P.A.S.E. afterschool program begins on September 13, 2021.
