Our S.P.A.S.E. Afterschool program provides a range of high-quality enrichment activities designed to support students’ learning and development. The activities reinforce and complement students’ regular academic growth and development during non-school hours. Jasmine Thompson, a biology education major from Alcorn State University, is our S.P.A.S.E. coordinator.
The S.P.A.S.E. after-school program provides a combination of academic, enrichment, and recreational activities. Students are not only taught theories and concepts but are provided hands-on learning experiences. Students are given the opportunity to apply these concepts within relevant contexts. Also, students are provided homework support, tutoring in core academic subjects, individualized attention, technology integrations into activities, and various collaboration opportunities.
Research states that the most effective academic enrichment programs develop activities to meet the particular needs of students in their local communities. The activities in our afterschool program are designed to meet the individual needs of the students. We are grateful for the opportunity to continue to fulfill our mission of impacting lives by offering innovative ministries. The fall session of our S.P.A.S.E. afterschool program begins on September 13, 2021.
As many families prepare for the start of school, In His Steps Ministries hosted a back-to-school giveaway to offer assistance to families. The giveaway was open to all Canton School District (Mississippi) students. Children had to be present with an adult at the giveaway. School supplies and backpacks were given away along with Christian Tracts, masks, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant wipes.
Thanks to Crossway Community Church (Irvine California), Broadmoor Baptist Church (Madison, MS), and Ridgecrest Baptist Church (Madison MS).
This giveaway was aimed to give families a boost. “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 4:10 We praise God that we were able to serve over 50 families.
Our summer enrichment program is a great way to expose students to new and more advanced areas of learning during the long summer vacation break. With the help of our partners and volunteers, we are able to produce summer gains in student learning. Volunteering improves the lives of others while making a direct impact on the lives of our students. We would like to thank Horne CPA for volunteering during our summer enrichment program helping us achieve our goal and fulfill our mission.
