Our Story

In 1994 a vision was placed on the hearts of Jasper and Carolyn Bacon to have a place where the youth and families of Canton, MS can come and learn about Jesus Christ. In 2005, a generous family from Wheaton, IL donated $150,000 for them to acquire a 15-acre plot of land to establish the In His Steps campus as well as $200,000 for the construction of a multipurpose building.
Thanks to God’s provision and the incredible generosity of IHS friends and partners, the ministry paid off the space. Having financial freedom and allowing them to further develop the 15 acres into a sports complex, which now features a basketball pavilion, a cultivated football/soccer field, and space for future growth.
Where Are We Now?
In 2019, Rev. Bacon felt led by God to expand the ministry to include a Christian camping and training program. In His Steps acquired a 19-acre plot of land featuring an antebellum home and a small pond. Now, in 2025, the newly established Agape Campus, located just 0.2 miles from the main campus, aims to offer a camping experience that deepens children’s relationships with the Lord.
The transformation of the campsite has included converting a 4-car garage into a meeting/dining hall, as well as the construction of 2 out of 4 overnight cabins. The camp has already been used to host day camps where the kids can participate in different activities like fishing, devotionals, and more. The expansion of the camp will include more activities, such as volleyball, gaga ball, and an amphitheater, to enhance the camp experience in Canton.
We are excited to announce our first overnight camp will be starting this June 2025!
