Why the Resurrection is Important to Believers

On this Easter Sunday that feels unfamiliar to many of us, we hope you’ll take the time to sit in the Word of God and remember that our God is unchanging and unfailing in His pursuit of our hearts.

So, we ask the question today, why is the resurrection of Jesus Christ important to believers?

  1. It validates Jesus Christ’s DEITY.
    • John 2:19-22; Luke 24:6-9

“He is not here, He has risen! Remember how He told you, while He was still with you in Galilee: ‘the Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified, and on the third day be raised again.’ Then they remembered his words.”

  2. It validates a FUTURE RESURRECTION for the Christian.
    • Romans 8:10-11; Colossians 1:18; 1 Peter 1:3; Revelation 1:4-5

“But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of His Spirit who lives in you.”

  3. It validates indwelling resurrection POWER for the believer.
    • Ephesians 1:19-20; Romans 6:4-6; Philippians 3:10-11

“I want to know Christ–yes, to know the power of His resurrection and participation in His sufferings, becoming like Him in death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.”

  4. It validates the PAYMENT of our sin debt.
    • 1 Corinthians 15:3-20; John 19:30

“When He had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.”

  5. It validates Jesus Christ’s PROPHECY about His death and resurrection.
    • Matthew 16:21; Mark 8:31; Luke 24:46; John 2:22

“He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the teachers of the law, and that He must be killed and after three days rise again.”

  6. It validates Jesus Christ’s INTERCESSORY MINISTRY for the believer.
    • Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25; Hebrews 9:15; 2 Timothy 2:15

“Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him because He always lives to intercede for them.”

  7. It validates Jesus Christ’s VICTORY over death.
    • 1 Corinthians 15:54-58

“When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”

The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.  Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

May God enrich and encourage you as you mediate on His Word. Happy Easter everyone, He is Risen!
